Independent Trane furnace repair in San Diego typically runs $175 – $825 depending on the part that has failed, and most Trane repairs we handle are completed on the first visit. If your Trane furnace is short cycling, making noise it has never made before, or throwing an error code on the control board, call us at (619) 793-3598 and you’ll get a person, not a phone tree. This page is written for San Diego homeowners who own a Trane and want straight answers about what it costs to fix, how long the fix takes, and how to know the job was done right.
How Trane Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
Trane builds a solid furnace, but every brand has its patterns. After servicing hundreds of Trane units across San Diego, here is what we actually find when one goes down.
- XE80 and XE90 hot surface ignitors burning out. These older workhorse models built through the mid-2000s use a silicon carbide ignitor that gets brittle after years of heating cycles, and in San Diego’s coastal air where furnaces sit idle for months, the first cold snap often finds a cracked ignitor. The furnace tries to light, the gas valve opens, and nothing happens. We replace it with a nitride ignitor, which holds up far longer than the original silicon carbide part.
- S9V2 and S9X2 pressure switch trips from clogged condensate lines. These high-efficiency condensing furnaces produce water as they run, and that water has to drain somewhere. In San Diego homes where the furnace sits in a garage or closet, dust and debris build up in the drain trap over the off-season, the pressure switch sees the blockage, and the furnace locks out. We clear the drain, test the switch with a manometer, and confirm the unit fires before we leave.
- XV95 and XC95m variable-speed blower motor failures. Trane’s variable-speed ECM motors are efficient, but they are more expensive than a standard motor when they go, often north of $600 in parts alone. The tell-tale sign is a furnace that runs but barely moves air, or a blower that hums and then stops. We test the module separately from the motor. Sometimes it is a $200 module. Other times the whole motor is done, and when that is the call, we walk you through it honestly before anything is ordered.
- Gas valve failures on XR80 and XT80 two-stage units. A two-stage Trane gas valve that will not open on low fire but opens on high fire points to a failed low-stage solenoid. It is a common failure on units that are ten to fourteen years old. Some shops will sell you a whole valve. If the valve is serviceable, we will tell you. We quote the part honestly and let the written price do the talking.
- Flame sensor fouling on nearly every model line. This is the most common Trane furnace repair call we take in San Diego, and the cheapest to fix. The flame sensor gets a fine coating of oxidation from the gas, the furnace lights for three seconds, then shuts down. A proper fix is not scraping it with steel wool and hoping. We remove the sensor, clean it with a non-abrasive pad, check the microamp reading with our meter, and confirm the flame signal is strong before we call the job done.

Our Trane Furnace Repair Process
- 1
You call, a person answers. Tell us what the Trane is doing, or not doing. We ask specific questions because a furnace that clicks but will not light is a different call than one that lights and then quits.
- 2
We show up in the window we gave you. Our technicians are background-checked and uniformed. You will know who is at your door, and we will have already confirmed the appointment with you by phone.
- 3
We diagnose in front of you. Victor Mancini and his crew test the sequence of operation, check error codes, and use a multi-meter to confirm what failed before we touch a part. You get the diagnosis in plain English, not trade jargon.
- 4
We write the price down before any work begins. Not an estimate with a wink. A written price. If the part is available as OEM Trane or a quality aftermarket equivalent, we explain the difference and let you decide. The price you approve is the price you pay.
- 5
We fix it, test it, and stand behind it. After the repair, we run the furnace through a full heating cycle, check the flame, check the airflow, check the exhaust. Then we hand you the written 365-Day Done Right Promise before we leave.

AfterWhat Trane Furnace Repair Costs in San Diego
Most Trane furnace repairs in San Diego land between $175 and $825, parts and labor included. The spread depends on what failed. Here is how common Trane jobs break down:
- Flame sensor cleaning and adjustment: $175 – $250
- Ignitor replacement: $250 – $420
- Pressure switch replacement: $275 – $475
- Gas valve replacement: $450 – $825
- Blower motor or ECM module replacement: $500 – $825
What moves the price is the part itself. A variable-speed motor costs more than a single-speed motor. A Trane OEM part costs more than an aftermarket equivalent, and sometimes the OEM part is worth it, especially on a unit still under warranty. We always check your serial number for remaining warranty coverage before quoting anything. Call (619) 793-3598 for an exact quote. The estimate is free, and it does not change at the door.
Why San Diego Homeowners Call Cold Harbour Heating and Air San Diego for Trane Work
Most of our Trane repair calls come from homeowners who have already had a bad experience somewhere else. A repair that quit after a month. A price that changed when the tech got to the house. A no-show that left them sitting in a cold living room. We built Cold Harbour Heating and Air San Diego around the opposite of that. The Kingswell Way is simple: say the price before the work, show up in the window given, leave the place cleaner than we found it, put the guarantee in writing, and come back if it fails. Every Trane repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise, in writing, on paper, before the tech leaves your driveway. We are independent, locally operated, and have been at this since 2003. Our technicians are trained to work on nine major residential HVAC brands, so if your home has a Trane furnace and a Carrier or Lennox AC, one visit covers both.
FAQs
No. As an independent Trane service provider, our repairs do not void your manufacturer warranty. In fact, if your Trane furnace is still under its factory parts warranty, we check that first and use it to lower your cost whenever possible. Call (619) 793-3598 and have your serial number handy, and we will look it up before we quote.
In most cases, same day or next day. We know a dead furnace on a cold San Diego night is not something to wait out, so a live person answers our phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Call us and we will give you a real arrival window, not a four-hour shrug.
If the repair is under $825 and your Trane is less than fifteen years old with a sound heat exchanger, repair is usually the right call. If the heat exchanger is cracked or the unit is past eighteen years and eating parts every season, we will tell you that too. We are not going to sell you a furnace you do not need, and we are not going to patch a unit that has already told you it is finished. Get an honest read at (619) 793-3598.
We offer both OEM Trane parts and quality aftermarket equivalents where they exist. For things like ignitors, flame sensors, and pressure switches, aftermarket parts from reputable manufacturers are often just as reliable and meaningfully cheaper. For gas valves and control boards, we lean OEM more often. We show you the difference in writing before any part is ordered.
Every repair we make, Trane or otherwise, is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the same repair fails within a full year, we come back and correct it at no charge. It is written down on paper before our technician leaves, not buried in fine print and not dependent on mood. That is the whole point of The Kingswell Way.
If your Trane furnace is down in San Diego, call (619) 793-3598 now. A live person answers, a real technician shows up, and the price is in writing before a single tool comes out.
