Daikin furnace repair in San Diego typically runs $175 – $825 depending on the failing part, and most jobs are done same-day or next-day. We’re an independent Daikin service provider, which means we repair Daikin furnaces without being tied to the manufacturer’s schedule, pricing, or parts pipeline. Whether your Daikin DM96VC is throwing a fault code or your older DM80SS won’t stay lit, we diagnose it, give you a written price before any work starts, and back the whole repair with our 365-Day Done Right Promise.
This page is for San Diego homeowners who own a Daikin furnace and want to know what’s wrong, what it costs to fix, and whether it’s worth repairing. If you’d rather just get a straight answer over the phone, call (619) 793-3598 any time, day or night. A live person picks up.
How Daikin Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
Daikin builds furnaces that run quieter and more efficiently than most, but every brand has its weak points. Here’s what we actually see on service calls across San Diego, from La Jolla to El Cajon.
- DM96VC (variable-speed) – pressure switch lockouts from coastal air intake conditions. The Daikin DM96VC uses a modulating gas valve and variable-speed blower, and it’s popular in San Diego’s newer high-efficiency builds. When the furnace intakes air from a vent near the coast, fine salt mist and humidity can build up on the pressure switch diaphragm over a couple of years. The furnace will fire briefly, then throw a fault and lock out. We clean or replace the switch, check the intake for condensation pooling, and test the draft inducer for sustained negative pressure before clearing the code. A bad pressure switch on this unit usually runs $185 – $310, parts and labor.
- DM80SS and DC80SS (80% single-stage) – ignitor failures that mimic gas valve problems. These are the workhorse 80% Daikin furnaces all over San Diego’s older neighborhoods like Clairemont Mesa and Tierrasanta. The silicon nitride ignitor is a wear item with a finite number of cycles. In San Diego’s stop-start winters, the ignitor gets more cycles than a furnace in Minnesota would. Homeowners call thinking it’s the gas valve. It’s usually the ignitor. We test the ignitor with a multimeter before recommending anything, because an unscrupulous tech could sell a $400 gas valve for a $200 ignitor job. We won’t do that. Ignitor replacement on a Daikin DC80SS typically runs $175 – $295.
- DM97MC modulating furnaces – flame roll-out sensor trips caused by combustion air restriction. San Diego homes built on canyon lots or tight against hills often have awkward external venting. The DM97MC pulls combustion air through a sealed PVC intake. If the intake gets blocked by debris, cobwebs, or a landscaping project gone sideways, the flame can’t draft properly. The roll-out sensor trips and the furnace refuses to start. We clear the restriction, inspect the heat exchanger for any hot spots, and make sure the sensor hasn’t been damaged by the repeated trips. This repair usually falls between $165 and $275, but if you have high-tension wiring or gas lines involved, we always recommend a trained professional handle it rather than attempting to bypass a sensor.
- DM80SC gas valve – intermittent failure to open, often misdiagnosed as a control board issue. The gas valve on Daikin’s 80% single-stage models is robust but not bulletproof. When it starts to go, the symptom is intermittent: the burners light sometimes, not others. The furnace may run fine for three mornings, then fail on the fourth. A less careful diagnosis would point to the control board, which is a $450+ part. We bench-test the gas valve with a manometer and wiring test. If it’s the valve, we replace it with either a Daikin OEM valve or a high-quality equivalent, and the price lands in the $310 – $525 range.
- Heat exchanger rust-through on any Daikin model that spent a decade near the coast. Salt air is hard on any steel heat exchanger. In San Diego neighborhoods closer to the water, a Daikin furnace that’s been in place for 12 – 15 years can develop hairline cracks in the heat exchanger. The symptoms are soot streaks, a lazy flame with yellow tips, or a mild odor during the first minute of the cycle. Any time we suspect a heat exchanger issue, we run a combustion analysis. If it’s compromised, the furnace is not safe to run and we’ll tell you plainly. Repair is rarely justified; replacement is usually the honest answer, and we’ll quote it as such.

Our Daikin Furnace Repair Process
Every Daikin job follows the same sequence. No surprises, no mystery, no “we’ll tell you the price after we open it up.”
- 1
You call, a live person answers. We get your Daikin model number, a description of the symptom, and your San Diego neighborhood. We schedule a firm arrival window, not a “sometime between now and Thursday.”
- 2
We show up and listen. Victor Mancini’s rule on every call: the homeowner’s description is half the diagnostic work. We’ll hear you out, then verify what you’re seeing against the furnace’s actual behavior.
- 3
We diagnose, then hand you a written price. Before a single tool comes out, you get a written quote for parts and labor. It does not change at the door, ever. If you don’t like the number, no harm and no charge for the trip.
- 4
We do the repair with the right parts. Daikin furnaces carry a manufacturer warranty on major components, but the tubing, fasteners, ignitors, and sensors have shorter coverage windows. We’ll always quote OEM or equivalent quality parts and tell you which we’re using and why.
- 5
We test thoroughly before we leave. The furnace runs through full cycles, the fault history is cleared, the gas pressure and temperature rise are checked. We don’t leave until the system runs exactly like it did on day one.
- 6
We put the guarantee in writing. Before we walk out, you’ll have our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the repair fails inside a full year, we come back and make it right at no charge.

AfterWhy San Diego Homeowners Call Cold Harbour Heating and Air San Diego for Daikin Work
We’re not a Daikin dealer. We’re not the manufacturer’s warranty arm. We’re the local company that gets called in when the factory-authorized shop can’t get to you for two weeks, or when a furnace has been misdiagnosed and the homeowner is out of patience. Victor Mancini has been servicing heating and cooling equipment for the better part of two decades, and our technicians work on nine major residential HVAC brands, including Carrier, Trane, and Lennox. That matters because a technician who only works on one brand sees one failure pattern. A technician who works on nine brands knows exactly what’s wrong with your Daikin and what will actually fix it.
Every job is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. Written price before the work starts. Firm arrival window. A clean job site when we leave. That’s the Kingswell Way, and it’s not negotiable.
FAQs
In most cases, yes. If you call before noon, we can often have a technician to your home in San Diego that same day. The exception is when we need a specialized Daikin part that isn’t stocked locally, which usually adds one business day. Call (619) 793-3598 to find out how quickly we can reach your neighborhood.
No. Daikin furnace warranties cover parts, not who installs or services them. As an independent Daikin service provider, we’re careful to follow Daikin’s service procedures so warranty coverage stays intact. We’ll also tell you honestly when a part is under Daikin’s warranty versus when you’re better off paying for a quality aftermarket part.
If the repair costs less than 40% of a new furnace and the heat exchanger is in good shape, repair usually makes sense. If the furnace is over 15 years old and the heat exchanger is cracked, replacement is the honest answer. We’ll tell you plainly which side your furnace falls on, and we’ll quote both options without pressure.
Most Daikin furnace repairs in San Diego fall between $175 and $825, depending on the failed part. Ignitors, sensors, and pressure switches sit at the lower end; control boards and gas valves sit at the higher end. You’ll get a written price before any work begins, and the estimate is free.
Our phones are answered by a live person 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call (619) 793-3598 and you’ll talk to a person, not a phone tree.
