This page is for San Diego homeowners with a Rheem furnace that’s short-cycling, blowing cold air, making a banging noise on startup, or locked out entirely. Maybe you’ve already had someone out and the problem came back. That’s the kind of call we get a lot. Victor Mancini and our techs have worked on Rheem equipment across Clairemont Mesa, Mission Valley, Chula Vista, and up through Poway for years, and we know which Rheem problems are ten-dollar fixes and which ones mean the heat exchanger is done.

Tell me what it’s doing, and I’ll tell you what it needs – no guesswork, no upsell.

How Rheem Products Fail – and How We Fix Them

  • Dirty flame sensors on the Classic and Prestige 90 Plus series. This is the most common Rheem no-heat call we get in San Diego. The furnace lights, runs for four or five seconds, then shuts down. The flame sensor gets a film of oxidation from our coastal air, and the board can’t confirm the flame. We pull the sensor, clean it with a proper abrasive, and in most cases the furnace fires right back up. If the sensor is pitted, we replace it with an OEM Rheem part. Typical cost: $150 – $240.
  • Pressure switch faults on R96V and R97V modulating furnaces. These high-efficiency Rheem units move combustion air through narrow condensate lines. When the drain gets clogged with dust and the fine sediment San Diego’s dry months kick up, the pressure switch opens and the furnace won’t run. We clear the trap, flush the drain, and verify switch operation with a manometer rather than just swapping the part. That test is the difference between a real fix and a repeat call.
  • Ignitor failures on the Rheem Classic line. Rheem’s silicon nitride ignitors are generally durable, but they do crack after enough heating cycles. When an ignitor cracks, you’ll hear the gas valve click open and nothing happens. Our techs carry replacement ignitors for most Rheem models on the truck, so this is usually a one-visit repair. Expect to pay $180 – $280 including the part and labor.
  • Control board failures on R95T and R96T two-stage units. A common tell is the blower running when the heat is off, or the furnace ignoring the thermostat. Rheem boards are not something we patch with aftermarket universal parts unless the OEM board is discontinued. When we do use aftermarket on an out-of-production unit, we tell you first and explain why, and the repair still carries our full 365-day guarantee.
  • Heat exchanger concerns on 15-to-20-year-old Rheem furnaces. This is the one repair where we slow down and have a straight conversation. On older Rheem Classic 80% units, a cracked exchanger will trip the rollout switch or show visible rust at the seams. If the exchanger is compromised, we will not patch it and send you back into winter with a carbon monoxide risk. We’ll show you what we found, shut the furnace down if necessary, and give you a written repair cost alongside replacement options.

Our Rheem Furnace Repair Process

Here’s how a Rheem repair goes when you call Cold Harbour Heating and Air San Diego:

  1. 1
You call. A live person picks up, 24/7. You describe what the furnace is doing or not doing. We book a firm arrival window, not a four-hour maybe.
  2. 2
We show up on time. Uniformed, background-checked technician. You know who’s at your door before you open it.
  3. 3
We diagnose with instruments, not hunches. We test gas pressure, measure voltage, check the flame signal, and inspect the heat exchanger on every no-heat call. Before we touch a part, you get a written price.
  4. 4
You approve the work, or you don’t. No pressure. The price you approve is the price you pay. Where the repair involves a safety component like a gas valve or heat exchanger, we explain exactly what we’re doing and why.
  5. 5
We fix it, then test it. The furnace runs through several cycles before we call the job done. We verify it lights, heats, and shuts off correctly.
  6. 6
You get the guarantee in writing. Every repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the same problem comes back within a year, we return and make it right at no charge.

What Rheem Furnace Repair Costs in San Diego

Most Rheem furnace repairs in San Diego fall between $175 and $825, depending on what failed. The low end covers jobs like cleaning a dirty flame sensor or clearing a blocked condensate drain. High-end work involves control board replacement, gas valve replacement, or blower motor work. Here’s what we see most often:

  • Flame sensor cleaning or replacement: $150 – $240
  • Ignitor replacement: $180 – $280
  • Pressure switch diagnosis and repair: $175 – $350
  • Draft inducer motor: $280 – $475
  • Gas valve replacement: $300 – $550
  • Control board replacement: $350 – $700
  • Blower motor replacement: $375 – $825

What moves the price: the specific Rheem model in your closet, whether we use OEM or quality aftermarket parts, and accessibility of the furnace. San Diego has a lot of furnaces tucked into tight attic spaces and hall closets, and that access time is real work. Whatever the number, you’ll see it in writing before we start. Why San Diego Homeowners Call Cold Harbour Heating and Air San Diego for Rheem Work

We’re an independently operated company, founded in 2003 as part of the Kingswell network. That means we work to a written standard called The Kingswell Way: say the price before the work, show up in the window given, leave the place cleaner than found, put the guarantee in writing, come back if it fails. Those aren’t slogans. They’re on paper, every job.

Our techs train across nine major residential brands. On a Rheem furnace, that matters because the guy at your door understands how a Rheem two-stage gas valve behaves compared to a Goodman, a Carrier, or a Trane. If you have a mixed system, a Rheem furnace paired with a Carrier AC or a Lennox heat pump, we can service the whole setup without calling in anyone else.

Victor Mancini cut his teeth in the HVAC/R program at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and spent nearly two decades turning that training into real repair work before bringing the crew to San Diego. That’s why a misdiagnosed Rheem that’s been “fixed” twice is the kind of job this team gets called in to sort out. And it’s why the 365-Day Done Right Promise is not a perk. It’s the standard.
